Media Items

In addition to books and journals, North Hall Library also collects a variety of media items including audio, visual, and non-print materials.

Eligibility

Media materials and equipment may be checked out to the following individuals, with a valid ID:

  • Currently registered students
  • Distance education students
  • Faculty
  • Staff
  • Administrators

Courtesy patrons and faculty/students from other schools may not check out standardized tests or any equipment. Only currently enrolled students may check out laptop computers. Standardized tests may only be checked out by students with written permission of a supervising faculty member.

You can find audiovisual materials by author, title, and subject in the MU Library Catalog.

Available Materials

  • Three week loan period:
    • Compact data disks (CD-ROMs)
    • DVDs
    • Kits: Including games, manipulatives, models, realia (artifacts), and sound filmstrips
    • Overlays (transparencies)
    • Sound recordings: Including cassettes and phonodiscs (both spoken word and music) and CDs
    • Videorecordings

Available Equipment

    • Cassette player/recorders
    • Flannel boards
    • VCRs
  • Seven day loan period:
    • Select laptop computers
  • Library use only
    • CD/DVD players
    • Headphones
    • Laptops
    • Piano keyboard
    • Turntables
    • Video player with built-in screen

Material & Equipment Location

Music CDs are located in the Music Library on 1st floor South of North Hall. Audio books on CD are located on 3rd South.

"Academic" DVDs are located in the 3rf floor Atrium. "Academic" VHS are located in our Closed Stacks area (ask at the Library Service Desk).  "Popular" DVDs, videos, and TV series are located on 3rd floor South (TV series).

Laptops, headphones, and individual study room keys are available at the Library Service Desk. Records, VCRs, kits, standardized tests, and overlays can only be retrieved for you by library employees. To request these items, bring the title, call number, and location/item type to the Library Service Desk. Return these items to the Library Service Desk when you’ve finished using them.

Viewing Audiovisual Materials

There are four listening/viewing rooms where students can play records, CDs, cassette tapes, videos, or DVDs. The rooms are located on the first floor of North Hall in the Music Library. Keys for these rooms are available at the Library Service Desk. In addition, the library has CD players available in the study carrels in the Music Library. Headphones for these are available at the Library Service Desk. Groups of up to 20 people may view videos, DVDs, and other presentations in the theater-style Screening Room. Faculty and students can reserve the Screening Room or the Media Viewing rooms by contacting the Library Service Desk 570-662-4671.

Viewing of videos and DVDs in the library is limited to educational and personal entertainment use only.  It is forbidden for organizations to use library facilities to show videos or DVDs protected under the US copyright law without public performance rights.

Pictures

Sets of study pictures are available for students to use as visual aids for student teaching or presentations. You can search for pictures by subject in the MU Library Catalog. They are located on the 1st Floor, North and may be checked out. The loan period for pictures is three weeks.

Other Media Services

Reserves
Faculty may place non-print items on reserve at the Library Service Desk.
